Vila Nova de Gaia wine cellars

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Porto, A Vintage Soul on the Douro
To all those who have never tried Porto wine, raise your hand! Aha, caught red-handed! I’m joking, of course. Those who felt concerned by the question, no need to stress it, because you’re in THE right place to finally try it out. Even though this fortified wine takes the name of this city, its vineyards are, in fact, about a hundred kilometres from here. A UNESCO site since 2001, these centenarian grapevines span over 40 000 hectares. Well-treated and terrace cultivated, many varieties of delicious Porto wine are produced daily. Luckily, you’ll still get to see some wine here. Once the grapes are pressed, macerated and fermented, the finished product is stocked and aged right beside you, inside those huge barrels found in wine cellars. Despite some being more popular and historic than others, almost all are open to visitors through paid guided tours, taking you through all production steps to get this fruity yet alcoholic nectar.
