Santa Clara church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Porto, A Vintage Soul on the Douro
It’s in this quite little street that you’ll find one of Porto’s hidden gems, the Santa Clara Church. Unlike many others of its kind, this church keeps its beauty within. Step through its Gothic stone entrance and let the magic begin. Originally built in the 15th century, Santa Clara is best known for its breathtaking 18th-century altar — a masterpiece of woodcarving, covered in gold leaf. It’s a stunning example of the ornate religious art typical of northern Portugal. Declared a historical monument in 1910, the church offers a glimpse into the craftsmanship of a bygone era. But take note — photos inside are strictly forbidden, so you’ll have to let your eyes and memory do the capturing.
