This was a chosen place fo a tradition called Tertúlia — friendly gatherings where artists, writers and thinkers exchanged ideas over a drink or coffee. From the beginning, the building has been a chic Parisian-style café, changing its name to “Majestic” a year after its opening. A fitting name, as the place was frequented by important figures such as poet Antonio Nobre and French President Jacques Chirac. Even J.K. Rowling used to sit here, working on her writing — creating the world of the now-famous Harry Potter saga, about a young wizard with a lightning-shaped scar. Hence, the Majestic is known to be a place of pilgrimage for Harry Potter fans, eager to see with their own eyes the place that inspired the author.
