Saint-Jean-de-Montmartre Church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Paris, The Bohemian Quarter
You’re now on the Place des Abbesses, the Abbesses’ Square, opposite the only Art Nouveau church in Paris! This short-lived movement, which lasted around 20 years, gave free rein to the creativity of architects, who had been bound by Haussmann’s strict uniformity rules until then. Sure, it’s not the Sagrada Familia, and not even as famous as the Sacré-Cœur, but still, it’s the most unique religious building in the city. And get this: it’s built with reinforced concrete! It’s all there, beneath the beautiful red bricks. Mind you, this was quite a novelty at the time, and even earned the church a lawsuit for non-conformity! Just across the square is the entrance to the Abbesses metro station! It’s one of Paris’s famous Art Nouveau metro entrances, designed by Hector Guimard in the early 1900s.
