Montmartre Funicular

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Paris, The Bohemian Quarter
You’re now at the foot of the Montmartre Hill. You can see the magnificent Sacré-Cœur Basilica at the top. If you don’t want to climb the stairs, you can use a metro ticket to take the funicular, which will take you to the top in less than 2 minutes! It was first put into service in the 1900s and operated on a complex system of water tanks that would fill and empty, pulling it up and down the hill. It’s been modernized over time, and the one you see today is electric and driverless! It’s basically an inclined elevator. So you can either use it or take the stairs a little further on your right, near the square named after the revolutionary and feminist Louise Michel. We’ll meet you at the top to tell you all about the history of the Sacré-Cœur.
