This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Paris, Sorbonne University, Pantheon and Luxembourg Gardens

A leisurely stroll along the Seine is a must for any visitor to Paris. From here, you have a stunning view of the Île de la Cité. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our Louvre itinerary, which takes you across the island to iconic sights like the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sainte-Chapelle, the Pont au Change and the Conciergerie. This charming port is named after the Duke of Montebello, marshal of the Empire and friend of Napoleon. Legend has it he was on a first-name basis with the emperor, and could even contradict him! Before it was named after the duke, the port was known as Mule Port, then Bishop’s Port, and was used to unload goods arriving by river. Today, it’s mainly barges that dock here. The port is very photogenic and has been featured in numerous French and international films. You’ll see it in Woody Allen’s “Everyone Says I Love You,” “The Bourne Identity” with Matt Damon, or the movie “Elle”, directed by Paul Verhoeven. While you’re here, consider hopping on a Bateau-Mouche for a river cruise along the Seine. There are plenty of options to choose from, from brunch cruises and gourmet dining to classic guided tours and water taxis that let you hop on and off wherever you like. It’s a fantastic way to explore the city and the views are just stunning.
