Emily in Paris

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Paris, Sorbonne University, Pantheon and Luxembourg Gardens
We’re heading for the Place de l’Estrapade, a spot that’s become pretty famous thanks to Netflix’s hit show “Emily in Paris.” If you’re a fan, you’ll recognize the characters’ favorite restaurant, called Terra Nera in real life, and the protagonist’s favorite bakery, which has been buzzing with customers since the series came out. Emily’s building is over there at number 1, at the far end of the square. Sure, the show presents a somewhat idealized and romanticized version of Paris that’s far from the truth. But still, it’s a massive hit and one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. It’s full of clichés and beautiful shots of Paris’s most iconic landmarks. And people absolutely love it! Despite the clichés, American director Darren Star, the man behind iconic 90s shows like like “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Melrose Place” and “Sex and the City,” knows that Paris has a romantic appeal and that fashion is the key to its commercial success. Luxury brands are loving the exposure, and tourism is booming! According to Launchmetrics, a company specializing in influencer marketing, the second season of “Emily in Paris” generated almost twice as much media buzz as London Fashion Week. Another study, carried out by the World Tourism Organization in association with Netlfix, found that the number of people choosing travel destinations based on movies and TV shows has doubled over the past five years. A new poll by IFOP shows that 73% of Americans surveyed have a positive view of France and the French. That’s twice as many as in 2017! Though widely criticized, the series is a major asset for the capital in this new era of influencer culture. One only has to look at the government’s insistence that the fifth season be filmed in Paris rather than Rome, and even the cameo of Brigitte Macron, then First Lady, in the series to grasp the economic impact and influence a simple TV show can have.
