Square du Vert Galant – Green Gallant Square

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Paris, From the Mona Lisa to the Notre-Dame Cathedral
There’s nothing quite like the peaceful feeling of watching a boat glide across the water. You’re now on the Île de la Cité, in the heart of the Green Gallant Square, built in honor of Henry IV. But why Green Gallant? You see, Henry IV was nicknamed Vert-Galant (Green Gallant) as he had numerous mistresses despite his advanced age. Today, the square is as romantic as ever, offering stunning views of the Seine, the Louvre Museum and the Hôtel de la Monnaie, where France’s medals, coins and banknotes are made. For the record, the Paris Mint was founded in 864 by Charles the Bald. It’s the country’s oldest institution and one of the world’s oldest companies still in business.
