Sainte-Chapelle

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Paris, From the Mona Lisa to the Notre-Dame Cathedral
This is the entrance to the Sainte-Chapelle, the Holy Chapel. Now, there’s an entrance fee, but if you decide to visit, you’ll discover an absolute masterpiece. It’s a prime example of Flamboyant Gothic architecture with no less than 1,113 stained-glass windows that create a dazzling wall of light depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments. It was built to house the 22 relics collected by Saint Louis, including the Crown of Thorns. It’s pretty crazy when you think about it, but this crown cost three times as much as the construction of the chapel. All that remains today are three relics: the crown, a nail and a piece of the cross. You’ll find them in the treasury of Notre-Dame. As for the chapel, it’s a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The towering walls, as high as an eight-story building, are made entirely of stained glass. The way the light filters through, creating a kaleidoscope of colors, is truly magical!
