Loggia District

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Palermo, Where Sicily’s Soul Comes Alive
Welcome to La Loggia, one of Palermo’s oldest and most authentic neighborhoods. Tucked between the port and the Vucciria market, it has always been a place of trade and exchange. Since the Middle Ages, Italian and foreign merchants have gathered here, and its very name comes from an old loggia, a building where deals were made and meetings held.
The Second World War and decades of neglect left their marks on the area, but La Loggia never lost its soul. Today, the neighborhood really comes alive at night, when bars and restaurants fill with both locals and visitors. What makes it special is that it’s still less crowded than other parts of the city center, which gives it a more genuine, local feel.
Wandering through its narrow alleys, discovering small churches, or tasting Sicilian specialties at the market, you’ll find yourself immersed in one of the truest faces of Palermo.
