Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Oxford, The city of the dreaming spires
On your left here, you will find Trinity College. Unlike many colleges in Oxford, this one isn’t entirely hidden, and you can admire its gardens and the external architecture of its buildings from where you are. The college was founded in the 16th century, during the English Reformation, using the land previously occupied by a Benedictine monastery. It was founded by Sir Thomas Pope. He had no children and hoped that by creating a college, he would be remembered through the prayers of the students. By the way, his remains are still in the university chapel. Right next to it, you find Blackwell’s Bookshop, from the 19th century. It’s an institution in Oxford. It was opened by the son of the city’s very first librarian and launched the careers of many local writers such as Tolkien by publishing his first poem. The chain now has 18 stores and specializes in academic books.
Another place filled with history is located right next to the bookstore the White Horse pub. It’s one of the oldest pubs in the city. Just imagine, it got its license in 1591!
