Look to your right—the large building before you is the Library and Archives Canada building. This is where countless works on the federal government and its institutions are preserved, along with numerous records on the Indigenous tribes who lived in Canada long before the arrival of European settlers. The objective is to safeguard and share their history. Here, you can access a vast collection of materials, including books, drawings, maps, newspapers, audiovisual documents, and federal government publications, all primarily focused on Canada and its people. Library and Archives Canada was established in 2004 through the union between the National Library of Canada and the National Archives of Canada. Today, its collection includes over 20 million books, 30 million photographs, 425,000 works of art, and 3 million drawings, plans, and maps. A true treasure trove for anyone looking to explore the rich history and heritage of Canada!
