City Hall

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Ottawa, Setting course for Canada’s capital
This is Ottawa City Hall, composed of two large buildings. The one in front of you is the new wing of the building. Its entrance is on the other side. Originally constructed during World War II to accommodate military staff, this structure was later demolished and rebuilt in 1990 to make way for the new City Hall, now housing the council chamber. Then there is the heritage wing, dating back from 1875, made in a magnificent neo-Gothic style. This is where you’ll find the mayor’s offices as well as those of the members of the council. Before belonging to the City Hall, it used to be a teacher training college for future professors and researchers. In 1974, it became a National Historic Site. The two buildings are linked by a footbridge. On the other side, opposite the entrance to the new wing, is a large landscaped area. It hosts a big ice rink, known as the Dream Rink, as well as concerts and festivals every year since 2013. It’s an essential part of Ottawa!
