Saint-Eutrope Botanical Walk

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Orange, The City of Princes
You don’t want to miss the botanical walk – it’s your gateway to the Saint-Eutrope hill! All you have to do is follow the Julia Barthet slope, which opens out before you and takes you to the park’s staircase entrance. The climb’s a bit steep, but it’ll take you to the top of this 105-metre-high hill to the north of the city. It is named after one of the city’s first bishops, Eutrope, who founded the first church here in 69 AD. It’s not the Eutropius you know from history books since he died 400 years later – this one’s a local legend. This site was once home to the castle of the Princes of Orange, which was sadly lost to time. The castle may be gone today, but the Saint-Eutrope hill is a feast for the senses: panoramic vistas that stretch for miles, a botanical garden, a charming café to enjoy your lunch, and even playgrounds for the little ones. As you know, a large part of it is currently under construction, but the leisure areas are still accessible. Don’t let the big staircase scare you off – you can also get there by car or shuttle if you prefer it.
