Meyne River

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Orange, The City of Princes
You’re now crossing the Meyne river. It’s a tributary of the Rhône, flowing through Orange and Caderousse. But don’t be fooled by its peaceful looks; the Meyne has caused some pretty epic floods in the past, which in turn flooded the city of Orange. You can see a marble plaque in front of the ancient theatre, commemorating the great flood of 1924. Since then, the town has organized itself and built several excretory basins, a kind of empty dam designed to store surplus water during major floods. I’ll leave you to continue along rue Auguste Lacour, which opens up on your right, leading to the Aristide Briand Avenue.
