Take a look to your left: here’s an interesting street art spot. This form of street art, now very popular in many cities, has flourished in Nîmes in recent years, principally through the creation of the Spot association and the Expo de Ouf! event. The event was first organised in 2012 and gave dozens of artists the chance to exhibit their work. Initially displayed in a large flat, the street art creations took to the streets of Nîmes, with the approval of the local council. New works are now presented every year in the Gambetta and Richelieu districts. To date, there are over 80 frescoes in the city! They’ve been so well received that there’s even a special route through the city, and guided tours offered by the tourist office, to see all the frescoes on the walls. Don’t hesitate to embark on this tour of a thousand colours to meet these talented artists, who express themselves in the streets and brighten up the neighbourhoods of Nîmes! Here’s a great example, in the Square Clérisseau. The very first fresco on your left, for example, refers to large paintings by Van Gogh, Dali and Matisse. Take the time to admire these different works, which are now an integral part of the landscape of Nîmes!
