Small temple of Nîmes (Ursulines Temple)

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Nîmes, The French Rome
The Small Temple of Nîmes has nothing to do with the Dominican Grand Temple. It was named as such to differentiate it from the Grand Calade Temple, which was located in Nîmes until 1686, when it was destroyed. Built between 1714 and 1718, The Small Temple of Nîmes was formerly the church of the Ursulines convent. The Ursulines belonged to the Catholic religious order of Saint Ursula that was established in Nîmes in 1664. During the Revolution, the church became the property of the Protestant Church, and in 1802 a bell made by the Nîmes foundryman Barbut was added. It features a beautiful Baroque style with Provençal influences, which led to it being listed as a Historic Monument in 1964. The organ inside is truly remarkable, with a carved walnut-wood case dating from 1750.
