Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Nîmes, The French Rome
Welcome to one of the most beautiful gardens in the world! The Fountain Gardens have been ranked among the world’s top 150 most beautiful gardens. This is quite impressive when you consider that only 9 of them are located in France… Besides being one of the most beautiful, this park is also one of Europe’s first public gardens. It was created in the 18th century, in 1745 to be exact, at the request of Louis XV. It was designed in the classical French style by Jacques Philippe Mareschal, the king’s engineer. It features symmetrical paths, trees lined up in rows, vases and many other sculptures that give the park its elegance. Nîmes residents and visitors alike can now stroll through no less than 15 hectares of parkland, which has been designated a “Remarkable Garden” by the French Ministry of Culture, largely because of the ancient monuments in it, which we’ll be looking at next. The various species of trees also help to make it one of the city’s most interesting parks, with a wide variety of mediterranean species in addition to pines, plane trees and lime trees. Join us on a tour of this peaceful haven steeped in history.
