Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Nice, Nissa la Bella

Here you are, on the first belvedere of Castle Hill Park. You can admire the clear view that opens up from Bellanda Tower. This tower was entirely part of Nice’s landscape. It has been widely represented in paintings and photography since the 18th century. Contrary to popular belief, it actually dates back to that period. As is the case of many other elements on this hill,. it was built in a romantic garden style, where fake and real blend to create a nostalgic atmosphere. Bellanda Tower reminds us of the presence of an actual medieval defense tower : Saint-Elme Tower, located slightly further back, on the ramparts that protected the upper city.. The new tower was first named “Clerissi”, after its owner, who integrated it to his hotel “la pension Clerissi”, built right at the base of the tower. The edifice was then topped with a roof terrace, where you find yourself now. It was equipped with a small bell tower, which led to the rooms. The place was well beloved, and greatly inspired French compositor Hector Berlioz, who composed his symphonic opening of King Lear here. You can also visit the interior of the tower. It now houses the “bellandarium”, a small yet very interesting museum, which will allow you to relive the entire history of Nice through that of its castle. , You’ll need a bit of luck because unfortunately the museum is open only on Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm.
