Saleya Avenue

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Nice, Nissa la Bella
You are now on Saleya Avenue. It was built at the start of the 18th century, on the space left by the surrounding wall. Buildings open to the public were built along the shore, and by the end of the 18th century, Saleya Avenue became a trendy place where a wealthy clientele came to wander and do their shopping. Luxury boutiques and cafés were always full, and thus this avenue became the heart of Nice’s life. Even more popular today, Saleya Avenue is renowned for its market. In France, markets are true institutions. This is even more true in the South, as the population often gathers around colorful and sunbathed local produce. Saleya Avenue’s market is the most famous in Nice and is classified as one of France’s most picturesque. It is the soul of the city, offering the perfect opportunity to taste some of the numerous specialties! Do not miss out on Nice’s cuisine! “Pissaladiere”, “beef stew”, “panisses” or even “socca”, which is a chickpea pancake baked in a wood-fire oven. From Tuesday to Sunday, the flower market opens its doors and unveils its colors and fragrances alongside the fruit and vegetables stalls. Antique and secondhand dealers take over the market on Monday, for a ginormous flea market. On summer evenings, artists and artisans enchant us with a night market! This long Avenue is framed with bars and restaurants where you will be able to savor everything you just looked at. And trust me, going to the market makes you hungry!
