Les neuf lignes obliques

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Nice, Nissa la Bella
This imposing steel sculpture was commissioned by the mayor of Nice to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Nice’s annexation to France. It was installed in 2010, and each of its lines represents one of the nine valleys that formed the County of Nice back when it was a state of the Duchy of Savoy. It is the brainchild of Bernar Venet, a French artist who was a pioneer in conceptual and minimalist art. He is well known for using corten steel, a particular type of steel that resists atmospheric conditions and stabilizes quickly over time, taking on its emblematic rust color. Art being totally subjective, I simply gave you the meaning and will now leave you to judge its style.
