Created in 1852, Albert I Garden is one of the oldest public garden of Nice. The first one ever was born in 1828 on castle hill. Back in the day, taking a walk was the favorite physical activity of foreign winter tourists. So, Nice decided to build a new public garden to fill the ever growing need of this wealthy clientele. A little later, however, tourism turned to sea bathing, and the number of visitors to public gardens declined in favor of beaches and casinos. The garden houses a Greenery Theater of greek inspiration, an old bandstand, an artificial cave and a black metal arch called “Arc 115°5”. It depicts the “Baie des Anges”, located only a few meters away.
