Trinity Church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit New York, The Towers of Wall Street
Before you is the beautiful Trinity church, nestled among the towering skyscrapers of the Financial District. Its 19th-century neo-Gothic architecture stands in stark contrast to the modern buildings around it. It’s actually one of the oldest buildings in Manhattan, dating back to 1846. It was built by American architect Richard Upjohn and was the tallest building in Manhattan at the time, with its spire reaching a height of 86 meters. Although outshone by the many buildings in the area, the church is no less important. Behind it, you’ll find a striking cemetery, home to the graves of some of the country’s Founding Fathers, such as Alexander Hamilton. In fact, it’s the only cemetery still in use in Manhattan. Trinity Church also welcomed Queen Elizabeth II in 1976. The interior boasts beautiful stained-glass windows and a minimalist yet elegant decor, much appreciated by the locals. This lovely church also hosts a variety of concerts, from classical to jazz.
