Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, The Towers of Wall Street
No doubt about it, you’ve arrived in the Financial District! There’s a sea of skyscrapers all around you, shaping the urban landscape of this world-famous neighborhood. Look up and to your left – that stunning tower reflecting the sky and surrounding buildings is none other than the famous One World Trade Center, one of the world’s most emblematic towers! It’s famous not just for its history, as we all sadly know, but also for being the tallest building in New York City, measuring a staggering 541 meters. It has 104 floors and was built to replace the Twin Towers that were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks. And it’s no coincidence that the tower is 1776 feet tall – that’s the year America gained its independence! Without its antenna, it stands at 417 meters, the exact height of the North Tower of the original World Trade Center. Construction began in 2006 by architects David Childs and Daniel Libeskind, and the building was constructed from reflective glass, which makes it truly striking. Completed in 2014, One World Trade Center houses numerous offices and some of Manhattan’s biggest retailers, across 82 floors. There’s also an observatory open to the public on the top floors, offering exceptional views of New York. So you see, this tower is an iconic city landmark and a fitting tribute to the internationally renowned World Trade Center. Some still refer to it as the Freedom Tower, its former name, before it officially became One World Trade Center in 2009.
