New York City Hall

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, The Towers of Wall Street
Before you is the City Hall, the seat of the New York City Government. Built between 1803 and 1812, it is the oldest city hall in the United States and still houses the offices of the city council, including the mayor’s office. It was designed in the French Renaissance style by American architect John McComb Jr. and French architect François Mangin. Its interior is decorated in an American-Georgian style. This elegant building also houses the remains of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. It was he who, in 1863, laid the groundwork for the abolition of slavery in the country, with a text that would become the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The building’s interior also features works of art from 18th- and 19th-century America, paintings from the 18th to 20th centuries, and George Washington’s office.
