St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, In the heart of Manhattan
Right in the heart of 5th Avenue, one of New York’s most famous streets, you’ll find St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This stunning white marble church stands out against the backdrop of the city’s towering skyscrapers. Though it may seem tiny next to these impressive buildings, it’s actually the biggest church in the United States, measuring 183 meters long and 84 meters wide, and reaching a height of 101 meters. It was built in a remarkable Gothic style and completed in 1878, 20 years after its construction was interrupted by the American Civil War. Its two spires were added in 1888, making it the tallest building in Midtown at the time. The beautiful stained-glass windows are the work of French and American architects, and the rose window on the façade measures 8 meters in diameter. Inside you’ll find a replica of Michelangelo’s Pietà, a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. I strongly recommend that you visit the cathedral to see its impressive architecture up close – it’s well worth the detour!
