Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, In the heart of Manhattan

Welcome to Bryant Park, one of New York’s most famous parks, right in the heart of Manhattan and just a stone’s throw from Fifth Avenue. It’s nicknamed “Little Luxembourg Gardens” because of its chairs, tables and carousel reminiscent of those in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. Bryant Park spans 3.9 hectares and is a true oasis in the midst of Midtown’s high-rise buildings. First laid out in 1843 under the name of Reservoir Park, it took on its current name 40 years later in honor of William Cullen Bryant, a local poet and journalist who fought for the abolition of slavery. It was redesigned in the 1930s and fell into disrepair for many years, before being renovated in 1989 and becoming a hit with locals, who come here time and again to escape the hustle and bustle of the City that Never Sleeps. Like a number of other parks, Bryant Park served as a cemetery until 1840, when it was converted into a French formal garden. In winter, the park is adorned with a large skating rink and an illuminated Christmas tree that only add to its charm. There you have it. Now you know why this square is so popular with tourists and locals alike!
