Jane’s Carousel

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit New York, Destination: Brooklyn
The Jane’s Carousel is a favorite with young and old alike, inviting visitors to enjoy a ride in its stunning glass pavilion designed by Jean Nouvel. The carousel was built in 1922 and operated for many years as part of the Idora amusement park in Ohio, before being purchased by Jane Walentas, a local engraver, who gave it her name and lovingly restored it for over 25 years. After extensive renovations, it found a new home here, in the northern part of Brooklyn Bridge Park. In 1975, it made history by becoming the first carousel to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. So, what do you say? Are you up for a magical ride?
