Strawberry Fields

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, A Stroll in Central Park
This circle on the ground is a memorial to John Lennon, one of the most talented songwriters of all time and a member of the legendary Beatles. He lived with his wife at the far end of the Upper West Side, in the so-called Dakota Building, overlooking this very park. This commemorative mosaic, bearing the title of Lennon’s most famous song “Imagine,” was unveiled in 1985, the year John Lennon would have turned 45. It was created by Yoko Ono, the Japanese artist with whom Lennon shared his life for over 10 years. Instead of a statue, Ono also worked with the Central Park Conservancy to create this beautiful 5-acre landscape known as “Strawberry Fields,” inspired by his song “Strawberry Fields Forever.” It’s a fitting tribute to this performer, who was tragically murdered on December 8, 1980, right outside his home, as his wife watched in horror. His death sent shock waves around the world. Even if you’re not a die-hard Beatles fan, this little mosaic in the heart of Central Park is sure to move you and remind you of at least one of the songs written by this world-famous peace activist.
