Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit New York, A Stroll in Central Park
Welcome to Central Park, the most famous park in the United States, if not the world! Some 42 million people visit it every year. Tourists and locals come here to play sports, have fun with their kids or enjoy a picnic on the vast green lawns. You’ll find sports fields, playgrounds and lakes that are just perfect for romantic strolls, as well as a host of small, must-see monuments that add to its charm. Measuring 4 kilometers long and 800 meters wide, Central Park is one of the largest urban parks in the world, and undoubtedly one of the busiest. The park has been featured in some 350 films and TV series that have boosted its international reputation. And this recognition is well-deserved, given that it took 13 years to build! Completed in 1873, it marks the boundary between the famous Upper East Side and Upper West Side neighborhoods. At the beginning of the 19th century, when New York was becoming the largest city in the United States, residents asked for a park to be built in the heart of the city, so they could enjoy and stroll through a green space. You see, there was no such place in the city at the time. In fact, Central Park was the first park to be built in an American city. It became the city’s green lung, much like London’s Hyde Park or the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, and by the end of the 19th century, it had become a favorite with New Yorkers. It’s just as famous today, home to 270 species of birds, rabbits, squirrels and raccoons.
