Alice in Wonderland Sculpture

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit New York, A Stroll in Central Park
This lovely statue, a favorite with young and old alike, shows the five main characters from “Alice in Wonderland.” There’s Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Mouse from the Pool of Tears. The sculpture was designed by sculptor José de Creeft and installed here in 1959. It was gifted to New York City by American publisher and philanthropist George Delacorte, who wished to honor the memory of his wife, who used to read the famous tale to their children. It’s one of the few statues in the park you can touch and even climb, and it’s a great spot for photos. Don’t miss it!
