Viscounts’ Garden

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Narbonne, City of Wind and Sun
The small garden you’re standing in now was created in the 1990s—but this peaceful green space hasn’t always looked like this. Back in the Middle Ages, part of the city’s fortifications stood here, connected to the Archbishop’s Palace. Then, from the 16th to the 18th centuries, the site was home to a Capuchin monastery, which was later replaced by the city’s courthouse, used right up until World War II. Today, it’s been transformed into a charming romantic-style garden, offering lovely views of the cathedral. Its name—the Viscounts’ Garden—is a nod to the viscounts who ruled Narbonne between the 9th and 16th centuries. It’s a quiet little spot, full of history, and a great place to take a break and enjoy a stroll.
