View of the Merchants’ Bridge

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Narbonne, City of Wind and Sun
From the Barques footbridge, you get a perfect view of Narbonne’s famous Merchants’ Bridge! Looking at it from here, you might be reminded of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence—and for good reason: it’s built in the same way, as an inhabited bridge. These kinds of bridges are rare, with shops and homes built directly on them. Today, only one arch remains, but when it was originally constructed, the bridge had six or even seven arches, making it much longer than what you see now. This is a great spot to snap a souvenir photo of Narbonne—with the bridge in the foreground and the top of the Gilles Aycelin keep rising above the treetops in the background!
