Underground City of Montreal

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Montréal, A Touch of France in North America
You’re now entering Montreal’s parallel universe, its underground city. Welcome to the World Trade Center, one of the many gateways into the famous RESO, Montreal’s official underground pedestrian network. Spanning over 30 kilometers of tunnels and passageways, this subterranean maze connects shopping malls, office towers, universities, hotels, and more. Inside, you’ll find everything from restaurants to over 2,000 shops, all connected to the city’s metro system. It’s a brilliant solution for locals to get around without having to face the harsh Canadian winters, where temperatures often drop to -30°C. While underground systems exist in other Canadian cities such as Toronto and Vancouver, none match the size of Montreal’s. Built in same time as Place Ville Marie, it’s the largest of its kind in the world, used by more than half a million people daily. We’ve decided to show you this underground world through the World Trade Center as it has such a stunning architecture, featuring a striking glass atrium, an elegant reflecting pool topped by a marble statue, and a seamless blend of modern design with preserved historical structures, including remnants of the old ramparts. And surprise, you’ll also find a piece of the Berlin Wall here—a gift from Germany to Montreal for its 350th anniversary.
