View of the Arco della Pace

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Milan, Secrets and Treasures of the Lombard Capital
The elegant triumphal arch you see on the other side of the park is the Arco della Pace, the Arch of Peace. If it reminds you of its Parisian counterpart, that’s no coincidence: it was built in 1807 during the Napoleonic era.
In a rather eco-friendly move for the time, it was constructed using materials salvaged from the demolition of the 4th-century Church of San Francesco Maggiore.
The arch stands 25 metres high and 24 metres wide, and on June 8, 1859, Napoleon III and Victor Emmanuel II made their triumphant entrance into Milan by passing beneath its majestic span.
