Postal Palace

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Mexico, Retracing the steps of the Aztecs
This post office, located in the heart of Mexico City, has been standing here for over a century. Housed in a magnificent palace, it was built in the early 20th century by architect Adamo Boari and engineer Gonzalo Garita y Frontera. It frames a wide array of architectural styles—baroque, rococo, Art Nouveau, neo-Renaissance, neo-Gothic, and plateresque—forming quite an eclectic and modern building for its time. Still operable today, the Palacio Postal underwent major restorations in the 1980s after suffering from the 1985 earthquake, yet it has retained its original, elegant, and impressive architecture.
