Museum of Tequila and Mezcal

What would Mexico be without its iconic national drink, Tequila? Probably a little less spirited! The story begins in pre-Columbian times, when the Mesoamericans used agave plants to create fermented drinks below 8%. When the Spanish conquistadors took control of the region, they introduced distillation techniques brought to Europe by the Arabs centuries earlier. This gave birth to a new kind of spirit: Tequila. A drink that quickly gained popularity across Mexico and the whole world and, by the 19th century, had become a symbol of national pride. Today, Tequila is deeply woven into Mexican identity, so it’s no surprise to find a museum entirely dedicated to its history in one of Mexico City’s busiest squares. Inside, you can explore its origins, evolution, and of course buy some if you wish to try local Tequila! Just a quick reminder, enjoy but cautiously!
