Hemiciclo a Juárez

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Mexico, Retracing the steps of the Aztecs
It was the Mexican leader Porfirio Díaz—a dictator having ruled the country just before the revolution—who commissioned this grand monument to honour President Benito Juárez, a man who tirelessly fought against social injustice and transformed Mexico into a modern nation, free from its long colonial past. With its elegant neoclassical style and semi-circular design, this stunning landmark, inaugurated in 1910, is a popular photo spot in the city. At the center stands a statue of Juárez holding the Constitution, surrounded by two allegorical figures representing the homeland and the law. A powerful tribute to a man who has permanently marked the country!
