Jean Cocteau Museum

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Menton, The Pearl of France
This is the most modern part of the Jean Cocteau Museum, with the other section located just a few steps away on Place Fontana. The museum’s main collection is housed in this bold, avant-garde building, designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, who was awarded the Grand Prix National de l’Architecture—the highest honour in the field, in France. This unique concrete structure was designed to let natural light flood in, creating the perfect setting to showcase the work of this incredibly versatile artist. Jean Cocteau wasn’t just a painter and illustrator—he was also a renowned poet, filmmaker, and playwright, elected to the Académie française in 1955. Opened in 2011, the museum offers a chance to explore his creative world in a space designed especially for it. Inside, you’ll find hundreds of works, spanning from the 1910s to the 1950s, offering a fascinating glimpse into the rich and varied legacy of Jean Cocteau.
