Palais de la Bourse

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Marseille, The Phocean City
Located on the Canebière Avenue, the Palais de la Bourse, like most of the city’s monuments, dates back to the Napoleonic era. It was inaugurated in 1860 in the presence of Napoleon III himself! Its imposing dimensions and spectacular façade hint at the wealth of the Phocaean city. Fun fact: it was actually the first building constructed in the city during the Second Empire, kicking off a whole wave of new construction in the 19th century, when Marseille’s trade boomed. Inside, you’ll find a massive 1,000-square-meter exhibition hall, and of course, the Marseille Chamber of Commerce, one of the oldest in France. The façade bears the names of great explorers such as Cook, Magellan and the famous Christopher Columbus. This historic building is definitely worth checking out!
