Opera House

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Marseille, The Phocean City
Located in the 1st arrondissement, the Marseille Opera House was built between 1786 and 1787 in a classical architectural style. Monsieur de la Tour, Intendant of Provence, laid the foundation stone and sent his very own troupe to perform the very first show inside! The building was destroyed by fire in 1919 and was completely rebuilt one year later, with the exception of its colonnade and peristyle. This unique blend of 18th-century elegance and 1920s style makes the Opera House a true architectural gem. Today, it’s a bustling hub in Marseille’s cultural scene, with locals flocking to see the opera house’s world-famous productions.
