Spread across a rectangular 6,500-square-meter area, the gardens are adorned with ponds, and feature a stunning rose garden with 75 varieties from around the world, as well as strategic rows of orange trees that offer much-needed shade during hot Andalusian summers. With a design influenced by Hispano-Moorish and French gardens, this space is a masterpiece of botanical and architectural harmony. The concept was to create a safe haven from the city for all visitors. Now, in case you’re wondering about the name, know that Pedro Luis Alonso was an important figure in Málaga’s history, especially remembered for his major financial contribution to the creation of these gardens. Besides its gorgeous roses and orange trees, the gardens are also home to cypress and mandarin trees. A quick fun fact , remember the 75 varieties of roses mentioned earlier? In 2009, the gardens underwent a large scale renovation during which many of the cypress trees were replaced with rose bushes.
