La Plaza de la Constitución

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Málaga, The many faces of Andalusia
You’re now standing in the Plaza de la Constitución, the beating heart of Málaga since the city was under Islamic rule. Right in the heart of the historic district, this square attracts tourists and locals alike with its warm and inviting atmosphere. After a long day of wandering through Málaga’s streets and uncovering its many treasures, this is the perfect spot to catch your breath, enjoy a refreshing ice cream or sip a strong, hot coffee. For a long time, this square was known as the ‘Plaza de las Cuatro Calles’ , or ‘Four Streets Square’ , named for its location at the crossroads of Larios and Granada streets. Over time, this square also became home to the city hall, the prison, the courthouse, and the Augustinian convent. Turned into a pedestrian zone in 2003, the square is now a lively hub for all kinds of events, including the week-long Málaga Carnival, which transforms the streets into a colourful spectacle. Yet for all its beauty, the stunning fountain at the centre of the square is the most eye-catching. The Fuente de Génova, a marble masterpiece, draws inspiration from the 16th-century Renaissance. With a unique charm and an ornate fountain, this place is an essential stop where tradition, beauty, and daily life merge as one.
