Statue of Melusine

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Luxembourg, The Capital disguised as a village
The 3D-printed statue you see here is the work of Luxembourg artist Serge Ecker. The creation of Luxembourg is closely linked to the legend of Mélusine, who was the companion of Count Sigefroi. Legend has it that the beautiful Mélusine asked only one thing of her husband, and that was, to have her privacy during bath time. So she disappeared every Saturday and locked herself away out of sight. Yes, in those days, bathing once a week wasn’t bad, at least not as bad as Louis XIV. However, Sigefroi’s curiosity got the better of him one day and he set off to spy on his beloved. What a surprise when he saw her transform into a mermaid on contact with water! The beautiful mermaid jumped out of the window into the Alzette and poor Sigefroi never saw her again! Luxembourgers, on the other hand, have been able to admire Mélusine lost in her thoughts every day since 2015.
