This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Luxembourg, The Capital disguised as a village

Welcome to the Constitution Square, located on the former Beck Bastion. From here you have a superb view of the Pétrusse valley and the Adolphe bridge. The monument in the centre is the Gëlle Fra, the golden lady. It was first unveiled in 1923 on the monument of remembrance, in tribute to the soldiers who died during World War I. Criticised by the Church for dressing too lightly, she is a powerful symbol of freedom and is adored by the locals. So much so that they decided to hide it during World War II to avoid its looting by the Germans. Unfortunately, the Luxembourgers forgot where they had buried it! And it was only during the excavation of the football stadium that the statue was accidentally found again! It was returned to its pedestal in 1985 and even travelled to China on for the Shanghai World Expo in 2011. After a much-appreciated visit to the village of her birth, where Claus Cito had imagined her, she finally sits serenely atop her obelisk, brandishing her golden laurel wreath.
