There are numerous fascinating stories about the Royal Family, here’s a quick rundown of a few that might bring a smile to your face! In 2021, the Queen celebrated her 95th birthday! The Queen celebrated her birthday not once, but twice a year, that is, on her actual birthday on 21 st April, and on the second Saturday of June. Why you might ask? Well, simply because June is sunnier and warmer than April, so why not have another party, right? However, the Queen was merely perpetuating a tradition that is actually quite ancient. This tradition dates back to King George II, who started it in 1748. He was tired of having his birthday bash in rainy November, so he started the trend of June celebrations. Thus, in June, Trooping the Colour became the official celebration of the British monarch! We’ll have to wait and see if King Charles III keeps the tradition going… Another fun fact about meeting the British monarch: according to protocol, you’re not supposed to touch a royal, except for a polite handshake. Some folks forget that, like Michelle Obama, who made headlines in 2009 for an accidental touchy-feely moment! Oh, and did you know the monarch owns all the swans on the Thames? Yup, no swan petting for you! And they’re the only one in the UK allowed to munch on swan meat. So, hands off if you spot a swan! That said, enough about the King, let’s focus on his children, who also have a knack for getting people talking! Fun fact: Prince Harry, now married to the beautiful Meghan Markle, isn’t actually called Harry but Henry! Lady Di, gave him this nickname when he was little, so now everyone calls him Harry! And then there’s William, who had nearly 2 billion people tuning in for his wedding with Kate Middleton! That’s nearly a third of the world’s population! However, you’ll probably never see him with a wedding ring on his finger, as tradition dictates that heirs to the throne never wear them. Well, you now know some fun tidbits about the world’s most famous royal family. How about we conclude with Queen Elizabeth II’s lovely nickname, rumoured to be none other than ‘Lilibet’!
