Covent Garden is not only the name of the district we’re in, it is also the name of one of London’s best-known covered markets. Well, ‘market’ isn’t quite the right word… There’s a craft market where you can find designer jewellery, decorative items and antiques that will delight the most passionate of you, but it’s above all the many restaurants, cafés and specialized shops that grace the building. In fact, a fruit and vegetable market was set up here in the 17th century, on the site of an old orchard dating from the Middle Ages. In 1830, it was covered with a 19th-century-style glass roof. However, the market’s popularity led to it being moved a few miles away to a larger site, which became known as the New Covent Garden Market. Nowadays, the main building still stands and remains a bustling spot, exuding a unique atmosphere beloved by visitors. Plus, the changing decor to match the seasons adds even more charm to this place nestled in the heart of one of London’s most vibrant neighborhoods!
