Saint Magnus the Martyr church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit London, The City
Originally built in the 12th century, this church was completely reconstructed in the 17th century after the Great Fire of London. It is an Anglican church: Anglicanism is a Christian denomination that is both Catholic and Reformed. It emerged in the 16th century when the King of England decided to break away from the Papacy. This new religious trend was introduced, or rather imposed, by the famous Elizabeth I, the last sovereign of the Tudor dynasty. She established the city of London as one of the greatest powers of the time. Although Anglicanism wasn’t popular with all the city’s inhabitants at the time, it remained the church of choice for the nation’s sovereigns for several centuries and spread throughout the world. Today, there are more than 80 million Anglicans around the world!
