Saint Edmund Church

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit London, The City
This Anglican church is dedicated to the martyred king Edmund of East Anglia, the last king of the territory before the Viking conquest in the 9th century. First built in the 13th century, it was completely destroyed during the Great Fire of London. The building was rebuilt by Christopher Wren, as were most of the buildings from 1670 onwards, and has been a Grade 1 listed building since 1950. It is the equivalent of the Monuments Historiques in France. Monuments included on this list cannot be demolished or enlarged without specific permission. In the UK, there are different levels of listing. Grade 1 is the highest: it recognises buildings as being of exceptional interest, whether for their historical, architectural or cultural aspects. A visit to this 17th-century church is therefore an obvious choice!
