Royal Exchange

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit London, The City
Built in 1840, this beautiful building with its eight Corinthian columns once housed the Stock Exchange. Originally, it replaced a former building that had stood here since 1571 and was used as a centre for goods and services trading. However, following the fires that destroyed it, this new building was built, in a neo-classical style, and since 2001 it has been offering upmarket boutiques, much to the delight of the local residents. In front of the entrance to this very special shopping centre, there is a monument dedicated to the victims of the world wars. A little further from it, you will find the equestrian statue of the first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, made from bronze recycled from old French cannons captured during the Napoleonic wars. It all adds up to a pretty little square in the heart of the City of London!
